United States of Mexico - Territory

 
Mexico covers an area of 1,964,375 km2, of which 1,959,248 km2 comprise the mainland, and 5,127 km2 are islands. The territorial waters of the Exclusive Economic Zone, covering 3,149,920 km2, should be added to this area, for a total area of 5,114,295 km2. (+)
 
 
 
 

The outer coordinates that frame the Mexican territory are :

 
North: 32° 43´ 06´´ North latitude, in Monument 206, on the border with the United States of America (3,152,90 kilometres).
South: 14 ° 32' 27' North latitude, at the mouth of the Suchiate River, on the border with Guatemala (1,149,8 kilometres).
East: 86 ° 42 ' 36'' West longitude, in south-western end of Mujeres Island.
West: 118 ° 27 ' 24'' West longitude, in Punta Roca Elefante of Guadalupe Island, in the Pacific Ocean. (+)

The political division of Mexico comprises 32 federal states. The capital is Mexico City, home of the branches of Federal Government.
 
 
 

Borders

 
Mexico has borders with the United States, Guatemala and Belize, along a total of 4,301 kilometres distributed as follows:
With the United States, there is an extended boundary line along 3,152 km from the Monument 258 northwest of Tijuana to the mouth of the Bravo River in the Gulf of Mexico. The boundary states on the northern part of the country are: Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas.
The border with Guatemala is 956 km long; and with Belize 193 km long. (Does not include 85,266 km of maritime boundary in the Bay of Chetumal.) The border states in the south and southeast of the country are: Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche and Quintana Roo.
